It is normally argued that immigration promotes social progress and a culture’s constant growth. Immigrants have shared new kinds of food, music, dance, and other cultural customs that have transformed and enriched the American culture. However, others saw immigration as a threat to the American culture and thus necessitating assimilation. Bobby Jindal once said that “immigration without assimilation is invasion.” This camp saw assimilation to be an absolute necessity for us as “immigrants in gathering nation” to succeed. It is a way for new comers to adopt the American cultural values and the American national identity.
