Border Patrol Chief Mark Morgan to Head Immigration and Customs Enforcement

President Trump has recently shown interest in appointing border patrol chief, Mark Morgan, as the head of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services agency. After a successful career at the FBI, Mark Morgan was appointed as the border patrol chief during Obama’s tenure where he was responsible for key decision making.

This is an interesting development since Morgan was ousted from his position as the head of border patrol when Trump took office two years ago. While there are been rumors of all sorts, it is believed that this decision was taken primarily because Morgan seemed to support Obama’s decision to grant protection to certain types of undocumented immigrants.

Since Obama’s administration was known to be relatively more lenient with regards to immigration laws, several officials were removed from their posts to minimize the leeway and flexibility given to undocumented immigrants.

How Does This Decision Affect the United States?

The general population of the United States feels strongly about this decision as Morgan has repeatedly supported Trump’s decision to build the wall. In fact, since he began expressing interest and support for stricter anti-immigration measures, Morgan has also urged Trump to “stay the course” so that he does not back out of his decision by falling into pressure.

Even though Trump administration has taken strict action against immigration and has stopped providing aid to numerous countries including El Salvador and Honduras, it goes without saying that there’s still a lot that will be expected of Morgan. In fact, he will, most likely, also have to come up with a practical, quick, and effective solution to curb the hike in illegal immigrants from Central America.

Since Trump’s border wall is nowhere in sight and there have been constant complaints about the stance that the administration has taken against immigrants, Trump has expressed interest in adopting even stricter laws and policies to show his supporters that he’s putting his money where his mouth is.

In March 2019 alone, the United States government has taken action against or denied entry to over 100,000 immigrants at its borders – most of which were attempting to escape terrorism and poor economic conditions of Central America.

In a statement on Twitter, the President has also said “I am pleased to inform all of those that believe in a strong, fair and sound Immigration Policy that Mark Morgan will be joining the Trump Administration as the head of our hard working men and women of ICE.”

While the future looks bleak for individuals interested in immigrating to the United States, only time will tell how well Morgan will fit into the Trump administration.
